Understanding Meditation
Meditation is an ancient process that has been safely practiced for thousands of years. As humanity has evolved so has meditation, and now there are many different forms of meditation associated with different functions. Meditation can be thought of as a balance act. Regular thought processes involve constant bombardment of our senses. During meditation, our mind is still aware but through relaxing and turning towards a single point of reference (or none at all), meditation attempts to bypass the thought process and gain an awareness of the self beyond thinking.
Meditation is often associated with religious figures or a connection to the universe but in reality meditation is for anyone and anyone can do it well with practice. Yoga is another ancient tradition that uses meditation to explore the mind body relationship. Modern meditation techniques have discovered many more uses for meditation. Meditation is used to treat smoking, drinking, lose weight, depression, reduce stress and even achieve different brainwave functions to enter an altered state of consciousness.
Using Binaural Beats for Meditation
Many meditation participants have had years of experience and are considered meditation gurus. These gurus are unlikely to need help getting into the relaxed altered states associated with meditation; however, the rest of us aren’t that advanced! In fact, most people find it hard to just “let go” and allow their thoughts to flow. They are tempted to try and process and examine them as they filter by. To truly enter a meditation state, detachment to our thoughts is needed. Some people find they can only concentrate for five or ten minutes; others have difficulty even lasting this long!
This is where binaural beat audios for meditation can be used. The most common brainwaves experienced during meditation are alpha waves. Not surprising, since alpha waves indicate relaxation, and indicate a feeling of floating or not being connected to anything. Alpha waves describe a light level of meditation. Those who want to experience deep meditation need to train their brain to tune to theta waves. Most people think of theta as being a sleep state; however, in meditation, training allows the individual to remain alert and aware.
The true experts of meditation are even able to achieve delta states, which normally describe being in deep sleep. To effectively use binaural beat audios to gain meditative states, the audio should state it is for this purpose and practice is needed.
The Meditative Step
Prepare for meditation like normal by getting into the correct body positions, place your hands, and adjust your eyes. Then turn on your audio and begin to practice meditation. Depending on the type of brain wave pattern you are trying to achieve, you will begin to notice immediately an increased ease in getting into different meditative states and detaching from your feelings. Use the audio with your daily meditation routine in order to aid in training your brain to the desired state; nobody’s promising that you’ll turn into a Zen Monk, but maybe you can discover the positive benefits of meditation.
